A NOTE FROM the Rivers

our history

As of August 2013 we have raised approx $8700.00 dollars and have donated this directly to the MDA. As Rivers of Hope, Inc is a non-profit pass through organization almost 100% of all funds raised go directly to the MDA. We recently finished our first event, The 1st Annual Rivers of Hope Golf Tournament, on August 2, 2013 in which this money was raised.
As of April 2014 we have raised an additional $800.00 for the MDA at our latest event. This event was a dinner night at Two Rivers Steak and Fish and we thank this establishment and all who came out and supported Rivers of Hope and the MDA.

As of August 2014 we have raised an additional $12,000.00 from the 2nd Annual Rivers of Hope Golf Tournament. This years event was a huge success and we can't thank everyone who donated, participated or volunteered enough for the great efforts put forth to make this happen.

As of October 2014 Tom Rivers will be participating in Marine Corp Marathon 10K in which he also raised another $826.00 for the MDA. Tom has put in a great effort running over 100 miles to prepare for this event since June and will make his family, friends and the MDA proud.

As of March 2015 The Rivers Family walked as part of the MDA Muscle Walk and raised $500.00 towards helping others with Muscular Dystrophy. This walk is held yearly and Rivers of Hope will always be a part of this event. We hope that you will join our team in years to come to make this event even a bigger success.

As of April 2015 Rivers of Hope held a dinner night at Buffalo Wild Wings in which $1300.00 was raised. This money was donated directly to the MDA for Summer Camp and other activities for the families who are struggling with muscle disease.

As of August 2015 Rivers of Hope held its 3rd Annual Rivers of Hope Golf tournament in with $13,000.00 was raised. Again this money is donated directly to the MDA who in turn uses this money for local programs within the Baltimore/Washington DC area to support kids and families fighting muscle disease. Hope to see you at this event next year.

As of August 2016 Rivers of Hope held its 4th  Annual Rivers of Hope Golf tournament in with $13,500.00 was raised. Again this money is donated directly to the MDA who in turn uses this money for local programs within the Baltimore/Washington DC area to support kids and families fighting muscle disease. Hope to see you at this event next year.

As of August 2017 Rivers of Hope held its 5th Annual Rivers of Hope Golf Tournament in with $18,000.00 was raised. This was out best year so far and we hope to continue the momentum for years to come.

As of May 2018 Rivers of Hope attend the annual MDA Muscle walk in which the Rivers of Hope team raised over $5000.00 to support this effort. It was a great time and a great way for all the MDA families to show support to the MDA and come together as a whole group to fight against Muscular Dystrophy.

2018 Rivers of Hope Golf Tournament had to be canceled this year due to surgery for Kourtney. We hope to be back at it in 2019 after a full recovery.

Our total for the past four years that has been donated directly to the MDA is over $73,000.00. Kourtney, Jackie and I thank everyone for the great support all have given to make Rivers of Hope a success and for your loyal support to the MDA.

It’s amazing what we can do when we come together.

RIVERS OF HOPE

Kourtney and Jackie both struggle with Myotonic Dystrophy. Both have very different symptoms but both have the same struggles with muscle weakness, balance and just the ability to do things that most take for granted.

In August 2018 Kourtney underwent a spinal fusion surgery to correct the scoliosis caused by the muscular dystrophy. This caused her to have her spine fused from T9-L4 with 3 rods and multiple screws.

We have been on a long journey to inform all about Muscular Dystrophy and the effects it has on children and adult. Through our community activities we hope to bring awareness to all and spread the message of how Muscular Dystrophy effects our family and how the Muscular Dystrophy Association assists those fighting this disease.

Thanks to all for the support to our family and all those effected by muscle wasting disease!
